New Hampshire to South Carolina

If not now when? This was both the question and the answer to beginning our RV adventures in March 2024. After much research and some test drives, my husband and I jumped on a flight to Forest City Iowa to pick up our 2023 Winnebago Solis PX Class B Motorhome.
June 2024 Lubec Maine

At only twenty-one feet, the Winnebago Solis PX Class B Motorhome has helped us to explore places beyond New Hampshire. Best of all, you do not need to bring another vehicle to visit attractions, pick up supplies or spend the day anywhere.
As the saying goes, live and learn. After a bit of chaos trying to find items, we made modifications to add storage to help us stay organized. We also learned not to overpack and to become better planners while staying flexible to explore. We are now fearless adventurers loving our Solis PX and the local charm of farms, wineries and historical landmarks through Harvest Hosts.
Modifications to our Solis PX includes rear awning, slide out chairs and draws. Inside, we added a toaster oven, draws, 12-volt TV, medicine cabinet and shower door.

New! New Hampshire to South Carolina May 2025
Day 1 & 2 Beacon Hill Camping, Intercourse PA. If you enjoy quiet camping and want to experience a friendly Amish community – this is the place. We found the camp site exceptionally clean and picturesque. Nearby shopping at The Village of Intercourse offers homemade treats and crafts unique to Amish culture. Be aware, everything is closed on Sunday and there are unmarked electric fences. I got a little electric jolt when I leaned in to take pictures of mallard ducks.

Day 3 & 4 Harvest Hosts – Scarborough House, Stantonsburg, NC. This is a historical property offering wedding and event venues as well as being part of the Harvest Hosts network. For RV stays you will enjoy great hosts and a tour of this historical landmark if the hosts are not busy. We found the hosts to be very friendly and accommodating. There are no showers available at this location.

People booking a Harvest Host stay at the Scarborough House should take the day to enjoy nearby Wilson NC. There is a strong economic development presence in Wilson making for the most enjoyable blend of art, nature, and development. As a children’s author of The Woodlands Series, LLC, I was inspired by the balance between nature and development.

Day 5 – 10 Hilton Head National RV Resort – Bluffton SC. This is a beautiful and immaculate RV resort near Hilton Head Island. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed electric cycling, the pool, nearby golfing, and the local bus service that runs Monday – Friday. The clubhouse is the hub for bus service, activities, and amenities beyond showers and laundry areas.
On Thursday, we enjoyed a Field Trip to the Local Farmers Market organized by the resort.
The park is extremely pet friendly with designated areas for large and small dogs. There are indoor dog washing stations available by the dog park.
If you ride a bicycle, you will enjoy exploring but will be unable to pedal to Hilton Head Island.
We saw our first Fox Squirrels and spotted more along the paths leading to the golf course. Fox squirrels are much larger than New England Squirrels and can have a mask like a racoon. The resort shared stories of one resident fox squirrel that enjoyed entertaining guests with a bit of mischief. Hmmm… there may be a future woodlands story about Fox Squirrels for the woodland’s series of fictional children’s books.
Day 11 – Harvest Hosts – Lu Mil Vineyards – Elizabethtown NC – This is a beautiful vineyard property offering event venues and daily tastings in their giftshop. No reservations are needed for tasting and the gift shop is open 7 days a week. This charming Harvest Host location is a stop that should not be missed! For RV stays you will enjoy southern hospitality as well as WIFI, 30-amp service, water hookup and showers at an excellent nightly rate. Despite the persistent rain, we were able to walk around and enjoyed the whimsical antique collection of this family-owned vineyard.

Warning: Watch where you walk and avoid wearing flip flops after heavy rains. We learned fire ants come to the surface after a heavy rains and will attack. These little buggers really hurt when they bite and could become a medical emergency. If bitten brush off ant from your skin immediately. Apply hydrocortisone cream after washing the area with soap and cold water. Using ice and taking an allergy medication can help reduce swelling and pain. Seek emergency care as needed.
